Rock-Bottom Shabbos Food

erev Shabbos 050Our theme this Shabbos is “making do with what we have because there are no groceries to be had.”   Luckily, we always have a TON of food on hand…

Supper:

  • Challah – small-batch Blender Challah (not as exciting as it sounds)
  • Soup
  • Chicken (Shake n Bake)
  • erev Shabbos 054Homemade Farfel (second half of last week’s batch)
  • Corn
  • Desserts

erev Shabbos 056Lunch:  (dairy)

  • Jar gefilte fish.
  • Bowtie cottage-cheese kugel
  • Tabouli (will add tomatoes right before the seudah)
  • Desserts

erev Shabbos 052Desserts:

  • Fresh Ontario Farmers-Market Strawberry Chiffon Pie (what a waste of healthy nice strawberries, but yum…!
  • Banana cake
  • Ted-made Strawberry/Rhubarb Crumble
  • Ruined Marshmallow Dessert (that’s what it’s called – RMD for short – after the time it turned out all ruined, for whatever reason I no erev Shabbos 055longer remember)

Hey, look what I got for $10 at Value Village this week!  Just the mixer and stand – no beaters.  Which is perfect because I already HAVE three sets of beaters – meat, pareve and dairy.  $10 (actually $9.99) might not sound like such a bargain, since they start at $15 new, but I have learned my lesson from my last cheap mixer, which, astonishingly, goes too FAST and sprays everything everywhere.  The motor part comes off the base easily so you can use it hand-held, and I may return the base to Value Village.  We tried it out a bit today, though, and it’s actually kind of handy…

It's Heart Month: 3 days left to save lives!

Dear Friends & Family: Hi, everybody! Sorry I can’t stop by in person... you're a bit out of my area.  :-) We’re out walking up and down on our street on this beautiful afternoon to raise money for Heart & Stroke.  This cause is important to me (I won't say it's close to my heart , because that would be tacky!).  I hope you'll join me by donating online. Growing up, I watched as every single one of my grandparents' lives were shortened by heart disease and strokes, and my father had a defibrillator that saved his life on more than one occasion.  Heart disease and stroke kill 1 in 3 Canadians and are the #1 killer of women. Please click this link to be redirected to my main page at the Heart & Stroke website: http://tinyurl.com/AtlasHeart Thus ends my personal appeal.  Official information follows.  :-))) ----- Heart disease and stroke is the #1 killer of women - taking more women's lives than all forms of cancer combined. But no one is immune. Th
